Kitty Hawk Fire Department

Kitty Hawk Fire Department, Station 13, is a municipal fire department for the Town of Kitty Hawk. Kitty Hawk is located on the Northern Outer Banks of North Carolina. The Town of Kitty Hawk has a year round population of approximately 3,475, which increases to approximately 23,000 during the peak season months of May through October. KHFD is a combination department with following full time staff – Fire Chief, Ocean Rescue Director & Fire Captain, Fire Captain, 5 Firefighters, and Administrative Assistant. KHFD has part-time firefighters, which complement the full time staff, to man an engine company for 24-hour shifts. KHFD has a strong contingent of volunteers, which assists in the functions of the department. KHFD responds to an average of 680 emergency calls a year which consist of emergency medical, fire suppression, automobile accidents, and ocean rescue. KHFD is most proud of its public outreaches to the community.
